INCI: Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate

Chemical Name: Fatty acids, coco, 2-sulfoethyl esters, sodium salts

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI) is a sulphate-free, biodegradable solid surfactant made from fatty acids from natural, renewable coconut oil that has a wide range applications, where a rich, luxurious and gentle foam is needed.

Suitable for use in wash-off applications, including facial cleansers, shampoos, liquid soap, male grooming products etc… and is particularly popular for use in solid soap, bath bombs, bubble and shampoo bars.  Because it is so mild, it is suitable for use in baby products.

Because it is anionic (negatively charged) it is very popular for use in hair products, due it its antistatic properties and, because it doesn’t cause dehydration of the skin,

Despite it’s high-foam performance, even in hard water areas, it is has a very mild action, that doesn’t dehydrate to leave the skin feeling silky soft.

Contains no animal-derived ingredients.

Usage:  Usage: 3% - 20% dispersed in water phase.  Heat is required to fully dissolve.

Not tested on animals and complies with European Regulation 1223/2009 (Article 18)

Presented in water-soluble dry chippings. 

USAGE NOTES:

SCI chips can vary in size but generally, they are quite thick.  While larger chips do not create much dust in the air (which can be an advantage for some users) they can take a while to melt, so it might be best to break them down.  There are a couple of ways this can be done easily, including:

• Place in a bag or on a hard surface and cover with a cloth.  Gently bash and roll over the chunks with a something like a rolling pin.
• For a finer powder, use a pestle and mortar or a coffee grinder*
